sponsorship

sponsor a medical or health worker

Young adults with a desire to serve their local and wider community are chosen by Hohidiai to train and work as health workers. These workers serve the people from the community by:

  • Running clinics at the base and in outlying villages. The mobile clinics can last from a day to a few weeks or months.
  • Caring for leprosy patients staying at the base.
Staffing the 21 bed hospital ward.
  • Visiting high schools to educate students on the prevention of AIDS and other STDs.
  • Carrying out a TB treatment program where patients are visited in their homes and provided with nutritious food, medication and emotional support.

workers

Workers who show particular commitment and ability are sometimes chosen to undertake further training in medicine, nursing, midwifery, dental nursing and pharmacy. This training is vital in adequately staffing the Hohidiai medical base both for now and the future.
The extent of the Hohidiai projects can be limited by lack of staff due to insufficient funds or training. By sponsoring a health worker or student, you can help maintain and grow the projects being undertaken in this much needed area

You can sponsor a health worker individually or you may be able to join with some friends to sponsor a health worker as a group. Health workers can be sponsored for $1500 a year. When a  worker is sponsored for this amount, each month $100 will go to the worker as a wage and the remaining $25 will go towards covering costs of transport, accommodation and training.

Email Carol for more information on the medical worker sponsorship program at carol@hohidiai.org

Any contribution is appreciated and goes a long way to empowering these young adults to better their own future and also the future of their community.

If you are interested in sponsorship please contact us on the e-mail address at the bottom of the page and we will provide you with further information and send you a profile of a health worker / student. If you have visited Hohidiai and know a worker, please let us know and we will allocate that worker to you if they are not already sponsored.

Sending letters of encouragement to your sponsored medical worker is welcomed. These items can be posted or sometimes hand-delivered if a team is visiting.  See the Contact Us page for details of how to send letters.
